Weekend Forecast: DCCX

DCCX is this weekend.

DCCX is held in – you guessed it – Washington, DC.

It’s part of a series with Charm City, held the weekend before in Baltimore’s Druid Hill Park, and as a set forms two of the best-run races on the East Coast. If you’re looking for a big, Capital-C Cyclocross weekend, I’d argue that DC should be your top choice for a several reasons:

  1. It’s basically a downtown race in a major city that’s easy to navigate. There are plentiful hotels, and you can get to DC via a non-stop bus from NYC. Chuck your bike under the bus and you’re there. I did this by myself for my first-ever cyclocross race in 2015, and it was great.

  2. Big fields, fast racing, good food, easy spectating, and typically very good weather. Sometimes too good, but at least we’re at the time of year where the leaves are changing and you can still wear a tee-shirt most of the day.

  3. You can bring friends, lovers, and kids. DC is worth seeing anyway, and there are great food options. Staying in a hotel makes it feel like a vacation. This is a win-win.

  4. Like NBX, Noho, and (RIP) Gloucester, the organizers really give a shit about the course design and prep. DCCX brings extremely premium vibes.

The forecast for this weekend is ideal cross weather – 65° and clear on Saturday, with showers on Sunday. DC can be pretty dry and dusty, so a bit of precipitation should make a welcome change for folks that have been there in the past. There are going to be huge fields this weekend and some real-deal pros to watch while enjoying a beer.

Also, Clark’s bringing his brand-new TBD Edition Moots Psychlo-X out for its first races.

So come say hi, would ya?

I mostly like cycling because I like stuff, and I like tinkering. The title for all of my posts here should be, “I made a bunch of mistakes so you don’t have to: [Topic] Edition.”

I’d love to review your product. Say hi: clay@tobedetermined.cc.
