Bubblecross: cyclocross season gets underway
What more can we say about Bubblecross that hasn’t already been said. It is one of our favorite races on the calendar and the 2022 edition of the race once again delivered the goods.
Coming into the weekend, I wasn’t even sure I was going to race. I had spent the prior month largely off the bike and then ran into mechanical issues with my bike two days before the race. But my teammates convinced me to borrow Lisa’s bike and head out to New Jersey.
Needless to say, I’m thankful they did. The weather was beautiful, possibly bordering on toasty for the afternoon races. The hangs were absolutely top notch as this was the season opener not just for much of TBD, but also for much of the NYC CX community. And the course was once again great for spectating - especially the sand beach, which remains one of my favorite places to shoot an East Coast cyclocross race. There was also some comedy along the way after a flat tire forced our team to fit five people and five bikes into a Honda Fit, confirming its status as the ultimate cycling vehicle.
After a long and excellent day of racing, the squad matched last year’s results with Baker and Lucia both scoring podiums and a plethora of top ten finishes from the rest of the team including Leah, Alex, Scott, and Mitch. Overall it was a 10/10 day playing cyclocross. Thank you again to Team Town Cycle for a great day of racing, and we’ll see you again next year.
