New Year's on the Trails

With a late start we knew we were going to be racing a setting sun home. We just didn't expect to lose by this much.

Yet somehow we found ourselves on the trails of Eastern Long Island with the last light of 2015 fading over the horizon and several miles still to ride before getting home. Thankfully it was a familiar section of trail but I'll still add "riding trails in the dark with no light" to my list of things to avoid in the new year.

Nocturnal adventures aside the weekend proved to be the perfect last minute escape to the woods and perhaps the start of a new New Year's tradition following last year's New Year, New Singletrack adventures. With Roger joining in this year's fun it proved to at times be a very high-speed experience - combine this with a spattering of leaves covering most of the trails and there were more than a few tumbles and close encounters with trees during three long days of riding.

Thankfully tired legs aside everyone survived the weekend unscathed. Unfortunately while the weekend was a blast, I suppose we can only procrastinate turning focus toward road season for so long (#roadiscoming?).
