TBD's Dream Winter Destinations: Majorca

Majorca is one of the Balearic Islands located in the Baltic Sea, east of mainland Spain. The dry, temperate climate, rolling hills, and jagged mountain peaks create an amazing cycling experience. It’s no wonder that pros and amateurs alike flock to Majorca for training and leisure.

The geography of the island features insane climbs on the northern coast line. Notable climbs like Port de Soller, Sa Calobra, and Cap de Formentor are all found here. However, the entire island is cycling friendly. Rapha even holds an annual lap around the island (Rapha 312). I’ve made it a goal ride to each of the the 14 different lighthouses on the island. So far I’ve been to 4 of them.

Bike rentals in Majorca are super affordable and there are bike shops littering the entire island. You’ll find the area incredibly cycling friendly. There are many options for accommodations from fincas (bed and breakfasts) to resort hotels. The food scene is a bit lacking, however - there are some hidden gems. Many of the fincas host a nightly dinner that features local Majorcan cuisine and wine. One of my favorite wines comes from Bodegues Castell Miquel. After long (or short) rides there is nothing like a dip in the pool, glass of chilled wine, or a jaunt to one of the many coves. The capital city, Palma, provides shopping, culture, and a beautiful coastal cathedral.
