Cunningham in the Fall
I haven’t been able to race as much cross this year as I would like but I am using any excuse to get off road that I can. A Saturday morning in NYC without rain looked like the perfect opportunity to head out to Cunningham Park in Queens to get some off road riding in. I rallied a few of the teammates convincing them that Cunningham would be perfect practice for the wood sections of Noho. It may be a bit of stretch but nobody seemed to mind.
I arrived at the meet up spot of Yosef and Leah’s place (late of course) to find them knocking back a brew on the stoop, a true NYC scene. After the brews were consumed we started rolling.
Unfortunately for Rod his chain snapped, and despite our best efforts we were unable to fix it on the roadside. We bid farewell to Rod and we later found out he ghost rode his bike home whilst riding a grey space bike, which is no mean feat if you know the commute to Cunningham!
We arrived at Cunningham to beautiful colours, let some air out of our tires and found the trails to be in excellent condition. We spent about an hour doing loops, taking turns leading through the trails and finding features that replicated parts of Noho. An unfortunate tumble by Yosef signalled it was time to call it, so we grabbed bagels and headed back to Brooklyn. An excellent but unseasonably warm fall day well spent.
I am a New York City based cyclist formally from Melbourne. Races of less than an hour are my jam and I’m @wheresscott on the gram. You’ll find me taking photos to escape the accountant life and running through winter to escape the cold.
