The Castelli Perfetto ROS: Our Go-To Glove for Spring
This past week, as my first road race in more than two years approached, my weather app showed me a forecast of a horrifying 38 degrees and windy. Yikes!
On Friday, the TBD group chat filled up with talk of what to wear—the first two race weekends of the season were relatively warm for March, and it had been a while since most people had raced in sub-40 degrees. Long sleeves? Jacket? Knee warmers? Leg warmers? VEST?! And the most important decision of them all: what kind of gloves?
I had an immediate answer: Castelli’s Perfetto ROS. It’s been my go-to glove for pretty much everything since spring started peeking its head out. I wear them for almost all my rides right now, as they’re the perfect 40-60 degree glove (or 38 and windy, if you’re at race pace). It’s nice and thin, so my fingers are still nimble, but soft and cozy on the inside with wind protection on the outside. Unlike a lot of “windproof” cycling clothes, they breathe, too, so my hands never feel clammy. The palm has silicon grippers, so I feel secure on my bars when it’s wet out, and the wrist is nice and stretchy so that they’re easy to get off and on while not allowing a lot of unwanted air through once they’re in place.
