TBD Race Calendar: May 2019

TBD Race Calendar: May 2019

It’s been a few months since we have written one of these, but with warm weather finally arriving and a busy month of racing ahead it is officially time to break out the old To Be Determined Race Calendar and take a look at what is in store for racing in May:

  • The opening weekend of May features A LOT of racing in the area. Saturday will see plenty of racers in action at the Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup race in Prospect Park and for those willing to undertake a bit of a drive there is Myles Standish in MA and Turkey Hill in PA to kick off the weekend as well. The biggest race of the weekend however will be on Sunday at the CRCA Zach Koop Memorial at Orchard Beach. Half criterium and half track race (due to the compact nature of the venue) this is always a fun day of racing with the afternoon Kids Races as a highlight. Several TBDers will be race directing at the event and we hope to see you there!

  • The following weekend sees a shift toward road racing with the CRCA Bear Mountain Classic and Tour of Battenkill both taking place on Saturday May 11th. This year’s Bear Mountain Classic has seen some big enhancements with the return of the KOM/QOM and Sprint Competitions, with winners jerseys for both of those as well as the overall winners. There is also a happy hour on the Wednesday before the race to help build some hype! Similar to Orchard Beach, TBD will be race directing at Bear Mountain and we’d love to see you out there.

  • May 18th and 19th sees even more great racing with a local CRCA race on Saturday and the terrific Wilmington Grand Prix for those willing to drive a few hours. Ken Herrod is another great option for those road race inclined riders. On Sunday much of TBD will be headed to Chatham NY for the sold-out Farmer’s Daughter Gravel Grinder - the timing works out great for avoiding the closed roads across the GWB due to the GFNY.

  • Last but not lease the final weekend of the month brings all of the traditional Memorial Day Weekend events: Killington Stage Race for those climbers/stage racers looking for a challenge and the Somerville series for the crit folks who are looking to stay a bit more local.

Interspaced throughout the month there is also plenty of racing at Kissena as part of the Vie 13 Weekend Series and the start of Wednesday night racing. And back on the road the Tuesday night FBF Series may (?) be kicking off as well depending on the outcome of permitting discussions (fingers crossed).
