A more complete Saturday

Rather than just heading out for our usual team roll, we had a session with Luke and Michael from MotivNY to assess our body imbalances to ensure we are getting all of the benefits of our training. We have previously spoken to the insights that we had from the earlier mobility series held by MotivNY that amateur cyclists have so much untapped potential that is locked away due to a lack of control of key joints and movements.

Our team session was based upon the Kinstretch class that MotivNY host; a movement enhancement system that develops maximum body control, flexibility and USABLE ranges of motion. Luke and Michael chose specific exercises for the team to focus on traditional weak areas of cyclists; shoulders, back and hips. The first half of the session was focused on mobility before moving into some strength exercises. One of the biggest takeaways we had from the session was how it was possible to increase strength without lifting weights by holding tension through the body during the specific exercises we were doing.

90 to 90: A great hip mobility exercise for cyclists

Post MotivNY with the team now feeling limber the majority of us headed over the GWB for a team ride with 4 x 20 tempo efforts along the 9W.

If you want to check out a Kinstretch class for yourself (which we highly recommend your do) you can do so here, and we look forward to continuing to improve our strength and mobility with MotivNY as the season continues.
