Our Favorite Rides: Marshall Canyon, Los Angeles
The eastern most trail head in LA County, Marshall Canyon, offers some of the most accessible riding in the west. Twenty years ago what was a blood feud between equestrians and cyclists, is now a friendly and well maintained trail network with everything from fire roads, to doubles, drops and optional ridge lines.
Adjacent to Marshall Canyon golf course, the trail has water features with the promise of wildlife in times of drought, and the associated oak trees offer a reprieve from the so-cal heat in the summer.
Descending Marshall Canyon is recommended after climbing up the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, with a public parking lot, though some climb up and descend Marshall from LaVerne.
The [partially illegal] Webb Canyon trails offer more features, but the length, accessibility and beauty of Marshall is hard to beat.
