Weekend Roll: Apple Picking at the Orchards

My email was no doubt the bane of the team's existence this Sunday. Entitled "Sunday Ride - Early Crew", it proposed rolling out from the George Washington Bridge at 8am. This would mean 6:30am wake up calls for the Brooklyn-based guys, with the those living in Manhattan able to rise at the slightly more social hour of 7:00 or so. There's an unwritten rule within the team that the first one to call a team ride gets to dictate its terms. Hey, as the saying goes: "All's fair in love, war, and team rides." Seven of us bleary-eyed cyclists made it out, which was an impressive number considering plenty of guys chose either to race CX or ride the MTB trails on Sunday. Under a precious autumn sunshine, we put in 85 miles out to the Orchards of Conklin, suffered nearly as many flats, snacked on apple-cider donuts, climbed way too many hills for this time of year, and chatted about everything and nothing. Here's hoping all of the remaining fall rides are just like this one.
