Lightweight Wheels and Team Sixcycle-RK&O
As we prepare for the 2015 season, Team Sixcycle-RK&O is proud to announce our first new sponsor for the coming season: Lightweight Wheels of Germany. Started in a garage in Germany, with a rich heritage at the highest levels of the sport, this partnership will bring the industry’s finest hand built wheels to the streets of New York City where Team Sixcycle-RK&O will ride them year round on a variety of terrain. Lightweight’s modest roots in Germany have evolved over the past two decades into a state of the art handmade carbon wheel technology through the passion and ingenuity of Heinz Obermayer who originally developed all carbon wheels in the 1980’s. With cutting edge production Lightweight offers unparalleled performance and durability across an array of rim depths. Team Sixcycle-RK&O will primarily utilize the Meilenstein Obermayer, a 47.5 rim depth wheelset that weighs just 935 grams, as well as the deeper rimmed Fernweg and a disc brake wheelset currently under development.
In addition to using the wheels at a variety of Classic New York City races, Team Sixcycle-RK&O will train extensively on the wheels - from the dirt backroads of Connecticut to singletrack riding in the Hamptons, proving these wheels are equally adept on epic offseason rides and fast paced New York City racing.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks and months for much more about Lightweight and all of our 2015 season plans on TeamSixcycle.com
The Lightweight Meilenstein Obermayer
Lightweight: Our aim was to make this exclusive spoked wheel even lighter and more rigid, and, at the same time, to consistently improve its braking performance and aerodynamics. A newly devised layered structure allowed us to further optimise the application of fibres and resin. And we developed a completely new hub for the front wheel into the bargain. This allowed us to reduce the weight of the MEILENSTEIN OBERMAYER by a total of 25 grams – while at the same time doubling its rigidity value. For you, this means: even less inert mass, even more cutting-edge technology and thus agility in a completely new dimension. In a nutshell: the lightest and most rigid carbon wheel on the planet.
