In addition to training and racing throughout the year, Team Sixcycle-RK&O aims to keep charity at the core of its mission. In addition to supporting rides like Bike MS and Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer every year the team maintains an official charity that is at the core of our fundraising efforts. For 2014 we are pleased to announce that the charity will once again be the Tour of the Litchfield Hills (2013 TOLH recap) The Tour of Litchfield Hills is a charity ride beginning in Torrington, CT and winding through scenic Litchfield County. The event offers the option to ride 12, 30, 50, 75, or 100 miles with the 50 mile ride  named the Best Ride in Connecticut by Bicycle Magazine.

The beneficiary of the Tour is the Center for Cancer Care Fund which provides support to cancer patients and their families in the northwest corner of Connecticut. The Fund lesses the financial burden for many patients and families undergoing treatment in Northwestern Connecticut. Additionally, the Fund supports local cancer education and prevention programs.

In the past two years, Team Sixcycle-RK&O has raised over $16,000 as part of the ride and, in doing so, has been awarded the Mayors Cup for most funds raised by a team. Additionally, Charlie Bird has been honored to read the ride’s traditional opening prayer for the 75 mile ride and 100 mile ride in 2012 and 2013, respectively. This year we have set an aggressive fundraising goal of $10,000.

In an attempt to reach our goal, this year we would once again like to extend an invitation to the cycling community to become a Sixcycle-RK&O team member for the weekend, fundraise under our name, and join us at the Tour. All team members will be invited to start the ride at the front of the pack and we'd be happy to host you pre and post race in our team tent.

To join us, simply register on BikeReg and denote your team as Team Sixcycle-RK&O. We hope you'll join us for this very special day on the bike.
