For most of us riding is referred to as “training” beginning December 1 and ending sometime in early September. While training, we often overlook the unparalleled scenery surrounding us for hours on end. Instead, we focus on seemingly important data points like wattage or heart rate. October gives us a chance to ignore data away, pick our heads up, and look around.
A few weeks ago, I returned to northwest Connecticut (home of the Tour of the Litchfield Hills) and did some of the exact rides used as “training” for early spring races such as Battenkill and Labor Day weekend’s Green Mountain Stage Race. It was a magnificent time to return to the same roads we covered in the Tour of Litchfield Hills, with the leaves beginning to turn and colors transitioning to vibrant reds and oranges. Here are some of the sights I missed while I was distracted by training.
