Independence Day rain ride

For most people a holiday - with its brief respite from the workplace - presumably represents an opportunity to sleep in. However for those that of us that define ourselves as cyclists, a holiday also represents a rare opportunity to get in a long mid-week ride. With that goal in mind several Team Sixcycle-RK&O riders found themselves departing the comfort of their homes before 7AM this morning and heading out into the rain in the general direction of Grant's Tomb and ultimately the GWB.  Of course with fireworks on tap for this evening the southern walkway across the GWB was closed - forcing the team to dismount and haul their bikes up and down the various stairs on the northern walkway. Cyclocross moves aside, the fresh pavement of River Road was a treat and within a few short hours the skies were clear, the sun way out and as the team crossed back into Manhattan even the roads were drying out. Even with the rain it's hard to complain about getting a few hours in on the bike in the morning with time to return and watch the finish of the Tour live.
